It's infuriating that after more than 20 years a decently performing version of these pixel-based games hasn't appeared on PC outside of emulation. I realize that isn't helpful if you don't have a Switch. Otherwise these versions are great and are ultimately my preferred release of 1-5. Ive already downloaded SOME versions of mslug 4 & 5, but they must be the wrong ones cuzz they dont work. Im sure there are many out there just like me, ive searched many forums, but theres never a clear answer on what to do.

I have seen others speak poorly of the Switch ports, but I've found that the slowdown present in those versions of the game is very slight compared to the PC releases, and often at times where it has little impact on gameplay. I would like to play metal slug 4 & 5 on my Mame32k 0.90 Emulator, but i dont know how. The bigger problem I'm experiencing with this option though, is that I swear there is a nearly imperceptible delay between when I press a button and when the character responds, which is frustrating in its own right. It has a short loading period between missions, but that is far less of an issue than the frame rate drops and consistant hitching problem present in the PC releases. Using emulation gives you save states too, which is nice when you want to practice a specific part of one of the games. After being sorely disappointed with the GOG and steam versions (which are identical), I resorted to using a ROM of Metal Slug Anthology for PS2, emulated using PCSX2, so I second this recommendation.
